The Pouwhenua

At school my class and I have been learning about the Pouwhenua. I have learnt that they are Maori carvings. Carvings that tell about Maori ancestors from the 19th and 18th centenary and that have stories behind them. Myths and legends. I know I didn't do many slides in this activity maybe next time I should add more information about why it is Spiritual. But overall I think I did a wonderful job and I have been busy with the drawings.

Taonga

At school me and the class have been learning the Maori word 'Taonga'. It is a Maori word for 'Treasure'. I picked the water, sea and ocean as the treasures because  the Maori had a powerful connection a bond with the water sea and ocean and Papatūānuku (the Earth Mother) and had spiritual bonds. We have to protect the water, ocean and the sea so that we have clean fresh water to drink and sea animals can swim. That is why I picked water, sea and ocean as TAOGNA.

The Ups and Downs

I had to create a slideshow about how the climate change had affected Tonga. I thought I did well maybe next time I should add more information about it.  But I did my best.

Making my Own Advertisment

In my class I had to write an advertisement for a Climate Change Officer. It was hard for me because I had think of some ideas and to put them together to make one. It was also challenging because it is about Climate Change. I think I did my best in my learning about Climate Change. Please give me some helpful feedback about my work and how you thought it was like. ;).
Do You need a Job? Well Here’s one available!
Climate Change has hit Tonga.  Tonga is one of the countries in the world that has been struggling. There were a lot of rising sea levels in their country and the seas are damaging their own homes and their coconut trees. If you want to apply for this job to help the citizens of Tonga,  you need to be one of the people that are helpful, compassionate and one of those who are hard-workers and who are good at building so for an example a carpenter. For this job you can choose what shifts you want to do. The morning is 7am-8pm. The evening is 6am-7pm. You will get paid $20 a week. You will have to help with water supplies e.g water tanks. You can also help with important supplies e.g food and help them get shipped into the ships so they can be sailed to Tonga so that Caritas can help with them. If you want, you can volunteer by helping with caritas.  Tonga needs your help. You don’t like to see them devastated by the looks of their home and their country. They need your help  to save their hometown. They are counting on you.

If you want more information about Tonga and the Climate change look into the Slideshow that is called ‘The ups and Downs’.

The Extraordinary Life of Charles Dickens

Planning  A Biography about Charles DickensFile:Charles Dickens 3.jpg - Wikimedia Commons

Early Life

Charles John Huffam Dickens was born in the year 1812 on February the 7th in Landport, Portsmouth, England. His mother and Father’s names were Elizabeth Burrow and John Dickens. His father works as a clerk and dreams about becoming rich but they were poor but lived a content life even though they didn’t have much. His mother, Elizabeth, works as a school teacher and school director. He had seven siblings. There were Alfred Lamert Dickens, Frederick Dickens, Augustus Dickens, Harriet Dickens, Frances Dickens and Letitia Dickens. He was the second child of the seven children. In the year 1816 when young Charles was four years of age, his parents moved his brothers and sisters to Chatham, Kent, where they would run and explore the countryside. Charles favourite thing to do was to go outside most of his time.

Education
When Charles Dickens was 12 years of age, his father had to be arrested for debt. Because his father had to go to jail, he had to work at a boot-blacking factory near the river Thames. His family had trouble with poverty. His family moved to a boarding house (which I couldn’t find the name of the house). But in the year 1824, when he was thirteen, he got back to his college Wellington House Academy.

Other Important Facts
When Charles was working at a factory Boot-Blacking, he had earned six shillings a week For cleaning fireplaces. It was the only place he could find to help his family from poverty, for those days it was hard. In the year 1827, when Charles was fifteen, he had to drop of school and work as an Office Boy to help his family. As it turned out, it was an early start for his writing career. The first book he ever published was The Pickwick Papers’ his sketches by Boz a collection of written pieces.

Adult Life and his Qualities
When Charles was twenty years old in the year 1832, he was energetic and confident. He always wanted to be in theatres. He wanted fame. He took an audition at Covent Garden. Where the fine manager George Bartley and the actor Charles Kemble were to see him. He wanted to audition as a comedian doing Charles Matthews, but he missed the audition because he had a cold and wasn’t well. So then he decided he would start as a writer for his career. Most of his life Charles Dickens has written so many novels or books in his time. He was a genius. He wrote  A  Christmas Carol. Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, Nicholas Nickleby, Hard Times, David Copperfield and many more. Even
a history book called A Tale of Two Cities. It was about the revolution of France. The story about England and France.

So his qualities are:
He was a genius - because he written so many novels and inspired so many people
He was Confident- because he wanted to perform in theaters
Energetic- because he wanted to be a comedian and show the manager and actor but unfortunately got the cold.

Something that Amazes me about my Author
Charles Dickens had not won any awards but  when he wrote his novels, he was the most popular celebrity that was well paid. I had a favourite quote of Charles Dickens. The quote is  “The most important thing in life is to stop saying I wish and start saying I will”.  That amazed me. I tried to know what that meant. I think it means that you can do it. If you want to be an author or a musician or anything, you don’t wish it but believe you can do it. If you can dream it, you can do it. For mistakes is when you learn. You start learning about the world. The world is hiding waiting to be discovered. Just stop saying I wish and start saying I will. I will do it. Charles Dickens has inspired me with his books. His good English writing and his characters. I always loved his book the Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist. Because it gives me emotions. Like when I cry or laugh or get a bit into the book. All the authors I read are very good. Especially Kenneth Graham with ‘The Wind in the Willows”. Or Margaret Mitchell with “Gone with the Wind”. But Charles Dickens will always be my favourite in my 'Favourite Author List'. For his classics are still in the library today or even in book stores. For classic books are the ones to keep and love and treasure.

Charles Dickens died on June the 9th 1870 at the age of 58 of a stroke in Kent. His books will never be forgotten for I know some or most of us will keep them.

At school I had to write a biography about my author Charles Dickens. I wanted to do him because he inspired me a lot of things. His quote, his books his achievements except he didn't get an award but was well paid. I love doing a biography about him. Because I get to learn about him more.

An Endangered Cheetah

An Endangered Cheetah

Are Cheetahs endangered animals? “Yes” . Because Cheetahs are very fast runners. They are the fastest animal or mammal runners . With long and strong legs,  and strong arteries they would run for 96 kilometers an hour in three seconds. When you combined or connect the cheetah with its large lungs and wide nostrils, it makes them have a strong and powerful heart. They also get oxygen in their strong muscles. Cheetahs mostly live in eastern, central or southwestern of Africa more than living in Iran. They are endangered because there are female cheetahs and they had to move their baby cubs from den to den, so they can hide them while going out hunting. The male cheetahs do the same. So they can feed their family. The cheetahs mostly hunt antelopes, wildebeest calves and hares. They jump when getting their prey. They are known for the black dark spots and running and big jumps when getting their prey. Today there are 7,800 cheetahs living in the Wilde. Cheetahs are having trouble by losing their habitat where they’re living because of the farmers.

At school I have been learning about endangered animals. I had to choose one and I chose a cheetah. I think I did well and I enjoyed learning facts about them. I hope you will comment on my work by commenting on something positive, thoughtful and giving me some helpful feedback.
