Terrible Times

At school, I had to write two paragraphs of a story based on the picture of a dirty man. I had to use descriptive words, and to use them in my paragraphs to make sense. What I think I should work on is to add more descriptive words to my story and to show not tell. Because we are learning to write a story that is Showing not telling. Please comment on my work so I know what to work on. Please comment by commenting on something positive, thoughtful and giving me some helpful feedback.

Terrible Times

As the bitter wind howls the man filled with exhaustion and tiredness stumbles in  an old wooden cabin. He  panics and collapses only seeing darkness. Darkness fills the air. Silence does it’s talk. The gusty winds howls powerfully as the windows rattle. Raindrops pelting down make echo noises and pitter patter on the roof.

The rain makes heavy, blaring noises as it hits the glassy window pane. The trees revealing themselves as shadows in the light. The man shivers with his heart beating rapidly and stays still like a forlorn tree. Panicked-stricken. His face turns fire red. Droplets of rain bead on his forehead. With despair and loneliness he felt frightened and dismayed.

The Extraordinary Life of Charles Dickens

Planning  A Biography about Charles DickensFile:Charles Dickens 3.jpg - Wikimedia Commons

Early Life

Charles John Huffam Dickens was born in the year 1812 on February the 7th in Landport, Portsmouth, England. His mother and Father’s names were Elizabeth Burrow and John Dickens. His father works as a clerk and dreams about becoming rich but they were poor but lived a content life even though they didn’t have much. His mother, Elizabeth, works as a school teacher and school director. He had seven siblings. There were Alfred Lamert Dickens, Frederick Dickens, Augustus Dickens, Harriet Dickens, Frances Dickens and Letitia Dickens. He was the second child of the seven children. In the year 1816 when young Charles was four years of age, his parents moved his brothers and sisters to Chatham, Kent, where they would run and explore the countryside. Charles favourite thing to do was to go outside most of his time.

Education
When Charles Dickens was 12 years of age, his father had to be arrested for debt. Because his father had to go to jail, he had to work at a boot-blacking factory near the river Thames. His family had trouble with poverty. His family moved to a boarding house (which I couldn’t find the name of the house). But in the year 1824, when he was thirteen, he got back to his college Wellington House Academy.

Other Important Facts
When Charles was working at a factory Boot-Blacking, he had earned six shillings a week For cleaning fireplaces. It was the only place he could find to help his family from poverty, for those days it was hard. In the year 1827, when Charles was fifteen, he had to drop of school and work as an Office Boy to help his family. As it turned out, it was an early start for his writing career. The first book he ever published was The Pickwick Papers’ his sketches by Boz a collection of written pieces.

Adult Life and his Qualities
When Charles was twenty years old in the year 1832, he was energetic and confident. He always wanted to be in theatres. He wanted fame. He took an audition at Covent Garden. Where the fine manager George Bartley and the actor Charles Kemble were to see him. He wanted to audition as a comedian doing Charles Matthews, but he missed the audition because he had a cold and wasn’t well. So then he decided he would start as a writer for his career. Most of his life Charles Dickens has written so many novels or books in his time. He was a genius. He wrote  A  Christmas Carol. Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, Nicholas Nickleby, Hard Times, David Copperfield and many more. Even
a history book called A Tale of Two Cities. It was about the revolution of France. The story about England and France.

So his qualities are:
He was a genius - because he written so many novels and inspired so many people
He was Confident- because he wanted to perform in theaters
Energetic- because he wanted to be a comedian and show the manager and actor but unfortunately got the cold.

Something that Amazes me about my Author
Charles Dickens had not won any awards but  when he wrote his novels, he was the most popular celebrity that was well paid. I had a favourite quote of Charles Dickens. The quote is  “The most important thing in life is to stop saying I wish and start saying I will”.  That amazed me. I tried to know what that meant. I think it means that you can do it. If you want to be an author or a musician or anything, you don’t wish it but believe you can do it. If you can dream it, you can do it. For mistakes is when you learn. You start learning about the world. The world is hiding waiting to be discovered. Just stop saying I wish and start saying I will. I will do it. Charles Dickens has inspired me with his books. His good English writing and his characters. I always loved his book the Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist. Because it gives me emotions. Like when I cry or laugh or get a bit into the book. All the authors I read are very good. Especially Kenneth Graham with ‘The Wind in the Willows”. Or Margaret Mitchell with “Gone with the Wind”. But Charles Dickens will always be my favourite in my 'Favourite Author List'. For his classics are still in the library today or even in book stores. For classic books are the ones to keep and love and treasure.

Charles Dickens died on June the 9th 1870 at the age of 58 of a stroke in Kent. His books will never be forgotten for I know some or most of us will keep them.

At school I had to write a biography about my author Charles Dickens. I wanted to do him because he inspired me a lot of things. His quote, his books his achievements except he didn't get an award but was well paid. I love doing a biography about him. Because I get to learn about him more.

Replying to Blog Comment

I and my class had to  make a DLO (digital learning object) about replying to blog comments. It's all about how to reply to blog comments. e.g when someone is Spamming you don't read it you show your teacher. I am proud of my work. Please comment by commenting something positive, thoughtful and give some helpful feedback so I know what to work on.
